Mental Fitness for Executives

A Focused and Practical Mental Fitness Programme for Executives

Those who consistently perform to their highest potential develop focus, manage their emotions and Bounce-Back from challenge, change and adversity. Our Resilience and mental health are closely linked and a commitment to mental fitness can advance productivity, happiness and create a thriving Leadership team.

Stress and mental health are part of life and work and cannot be avoided. Our Mental Fitness Programme will teach participants skills to develop their Resilience capability and increase understanding of mental health.

In a world in which VUCA (volatile, uncertain. complex and ambiguous) is constant in both home and workplace cultures – it is crucial for Leaders to effectively manage responses to everyday pressure and stress as well as the more significant life changes, organisational change, innovation and transformational requirements placed on them.

Leaders also need to know who they are and what they stand for in order to maintain personal flow and deliver with impact when it really counts. Resilience helps us do this however, it is often misunderstood. Resilience is the ability to perform effectively and sustainably through times of change or pressure. It is not enduring or toughing it out at the cost of wellbeing and productivity.

Leaders need to know when there are warning signs of potential problems for themselves and the people they lead in order to take positive action when signs of deteriorating mental health arise. This helps them to thrive rather than merely cope during stretch moments – because they are proactively managing their Resilience and mental health. Mental fitness enables your Executives to remain engaged and responsive to business and market requirements with the necessary commercial agility and self-compassion.

The programme content has been developed by Julie Courtney, drawing on her years of experience as a Resilience Coach and Mindfulness Teacher and work with the Executive MBA’s at Judge Business School Cambridge and Dr. Chloe Mitchell a Clinical Psychologist, Resilience and Wellbeing Coach. Together they have a wealth of experience in financial and professional services, having provided programmes to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Journalists, the Foreign Office and the Rugby Football Union to name a few well known brands. Together they make a passionate and dedicated delivery team who will challenge your Leaders to get to the heart of their Resilience and make a commitment to protecting their mental health.

This unique programme not only offers Leaders the chance to develop a mindful approach to their Leadership but also explores core behavioural themes in Leadership performance, including:

  • How our unique personality impacts our risk behaviour in relation to mental health.
  • How to make emotions work for you rather than against you.
  • How to develop the Resilience required for the context of your life, business and industry.

As part of the programme participants will be offered the opportunity to take an online personality profile. This helps gain a greater understanding of how their natural behavioural tendencies affect wellbeing and performance. There is often the opportunity to have a one-to-one session with our Business Psychologist who can offer further insights into strengths and weakness before joining a group session. This will vary from programme to programme.

The benefits of our Mental Fitness Programme include:

  • Increased wellbeing and ability to respond to complex priorities.
  • Enhanced ability to open blocks to creativity and enable out of box and innovative thinking.
  • Heightened emotional intelligence enabling participants to embrace change more readily.
  • A deeper understanding of personal Resilience and mental health.
  • Enhanced compassion and an increase in ethical and socially responsible behaviours.
  • An ability to listen and communicate more effectively.
  • Mindfulness and meditation strategies to help maintain focus and clarity and recharge the cognitive processes of the mind.

A note from Julie on Mindfulness …

“Mindfulness teaches us to stay connected with our own mind instead of letting it manipulate us or create negative cycles of thinking that can drag us down. This allows us to take performance to a higher level by learning how to be in the moment and stop the outside noise, enabling you to maintain poise and focus while dealing with stress and change rather than avoiding or becoming overwhelmed. Strategies have their roots in Psychology, Mindfulness, Neuroscience and take into account the latest NHS guidelines on Stress and Mental Health.”

A greater awareness of what mental fitness is helps reduce the negative impact life and work might otherwise have – enabling your Executives to sustain their Leadership journey. It also helps protect mental health longer term and is becoming increasingly important against a backdrop of escalating global mental health challenges in our workforces.

If inaction on mental health and Resilience awareness could be stopping your Leaders thrive and you would like your Leadership teams to develop the mental strength and capabilities to support their success, we would be delighted to work with you.

There is some variation in each programme depending on your organisational context, your desired learning outcomes, budget and location. Please get in touch so that we can discuss this further.
